The title of the post is definitely more of a nod to the fact, as I mention in the body of the post, that it gained that nickname in the press at the time.Adam Bunchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14112071438967577096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8790289735302476857.post-56077424278351347042012-02-26T08:50:00.433-05:002012-02-26T08:50:00.433-05:00I have written a book about 1960's bohemianism...I have written a book about 1960's bohemianism and I do mention Haight-Ashbury, where I was living when it became January 1, 1970. To title this piece "The Vertical Haight-Ashbury" is incorrect. Canada's Haight-Ashbury was Yorkville Village, just a few blocks from Rochdale College.

As I mention in my book and also in the book I am writing now "Rochdale College", the big differences between Rochdale and Haight-Ashbury, Greenwich Village and Yorkville Village were:

1) Rochdale was created, the others evolved naturally;
2) Rochdale came later than the others as an anachronism;
3) The people in Rochdale were neo-hippies, not hippies; and
4) Rochdale was ruled by a bourgeois elite. No elite in the others.

Wolf SullivanLone Wolf Sullivanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00548920100915059802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8790289735302476857.post-43569550317195300852010-09-24T15:23:30.217-04:002010-09-24T15:23:30.217-04:00That's an interesting read, though I'm sti...That's an interesting read, though I'm still pretty sure it's fair to call him an urban advocate -- it seems to be pretty well accepted that he was an icon of those new ways of thinking at the time.Adam Bunchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07330281017966163295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8790289735302476857.post-81180670527224052772010-09-11T13:21:03.501-04:002010-09-11T13:21:03.501-04:00I wouldn't be so supportive of him if you read...I wouldn't be so supportive of him if you read this critique of Sewell http://www.ontariotenants.ca/taxes/tax001.phtmlJim91https://www.blogger.com/profile/09739674689968081786noreply@blogger.com
